The Alaska AHEC Program focuses resources on health disparities in rural, frontier, and urban underserved areas of the state. The Interior AHEC service area includes Fairbanks and approximately 40 rural communities of the Interior region. The Advisory Council meets quarterly to guide the Interior AHEC in coordinating and/or providing health career awareness and education programs by reviewing health professions workforce distribution and development needs of the Interior region. The Advisory Council offers advice and guidance, reviews the effectiveness of the program, and makes proposals and recommendations, particularly in regards to the issue of long-term sustainability of the project.
