Connecting Students to Careers
Interior AHEC coordinates clinical rotations for students enrolled in professional health education programs at UAA, UAF, and various other schools. Disciplines vary from Nursing, Paramedic, Radiologic Technician, to Physician Assistant, Medical students, Social Work, and Pharmacy to name a few. Interior AHEC also supports job shadowing within the interior of Alaska for community members that would like to see if a health care career is right for them.
Connecting Professionals to Communities
Interior AHEC provides many continuing education opportunities for rural providers. Helping these health care workers maintain certifications and advance in their professions means they will remain in their communities, reducing turnover and increasing retention.
Connecting Communities to Better Health
By supporting such events as Mini Medical School Lectures, the Breast Cancer Symposium, and the Diabetes Expo Interior AHEC is helping communities obtain better health care.
During the 2010-11 school year, the Interior AHEC worked with over 2,000 students in our region to teach students about the many opportunities in health care for a rewarding lifetime career, and to arrange clinical rotations at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Denali Center and other facilities in the Interior:
1604 participants in presentations, facility tours and career fairs
197 participants in job shadow experiences
421 clinical ortations for students enrolled in various health programs
596 partcipants in community education and continuing professional education events
Interior AHEC is committed to growing a new generation of Alaskan health care providers so the people of our communities get the health care they need.
